FOR DEBURRING & POLISHING

Finishing Techniques Limited - Otec - deburring, smoothing and polishing

All OTEC CF-I series disc finishing machines uniquely feature:

  • A technically advanced process system to give a consistent high quality surface finish with all metals.
  • Process cycle times up to 20 times faster than with conventional machinery.
  • Patented `zero gap system' allows processing of thin or small parts,
  • Fine media can be used to obtain high gloss polish.
  • Automatic computer control of process functions with digital display.

Process system:
Finishing Techniques Limited

  • The process container is stationary and has a disc in the base, which revolves at 120 - 330rpm. This action causes the process media to flow into a toroidal shape, creating a sliding pressure on the pieces to be de burred or polished.
  • Otec have used precision machined ceramic rings between the container and disc to allow a precision gap to be set which will not allow media or small parts to stick or jam.

Machine configuration:

  • There is a choice of one, two, three or four process bowls.
  • The typical configuration would be three bowls. Two for deburring and one for polishing.
  • Other configurations are dependant on desired final finish and the type of metal also size & shape of pieces. Expert advice is available
  • Process bowls are described by their usable capacity. i.e CF 2X18 has two bowls, each 18 litre capacity.

Description of normal operational sequence:
Deburring & smoothing:
Deburring and Smoothing

  • This is normally carried out in a `wet' process bowl where water together with a soluble compound is introduced.
  • The process bowl is filled with media (normally an abrasive filled plastic shape) and the parts are added.
  • Computer parameters such as speed, process duration and the compound dosing rate are set and the process begins
  • Normal process time is only 2-3 hours.

Polishing:
Polishing

  • This is carried out in a `dry' process bowl where the media used is a walnut granule pre dosed with a polishing paste.
  • The bowl is filled with media together with the parts to be polished, the computer is set and the process started.
  • Standard polishing time is approximately one hour.
  • The media can be used for up to 150 hours before being replaced. During processing it is refreshed every 6 - 10 hours, by the addition of a small amount of polishing paste.
